Happy Valentines Day!

Most of us understand how vital it is to express our love and gratitude to the people who are important to us, but too many of us forget about the most important person in our lives. We forget about ourselves. This Valentines Day take some time to remind yourself about how important YOU are.

Society today is quick to prompt us to validate religious icons, political figures, celebutants and the like but few talk about how important self-validation is. Our schools don’t encourage us to look at ourselves, our churches rarely empower us with self-love, our country doesn’t reward us for taking time to understand how uniquely divine we are. But this Valentines Day let’s make a shift in focus and make sure we don’t continue to forget about that most important person in our lives. Ourselves.

Without the ability to love ourselves, without the vision to see how wonderful we are we can’t be of much good to ourselves or to others. Depression, dis-ease, neurosis, drug use, violence, adultery, untruthfulness, thievery, over-eating. The list of woes and despair associated with self-loathing are endless. It’s crucial to our mental and emotional health that we make the conscience effort to love ourselves. And more and more mainstream healthcare professional are starting to acknowledge the importance of state of mind in the healing process.

Let’s make this Valentine’s Day a celebration of you and a revolution in love for all of us. It will still be a day set aside to remind us of who is most important in our lives. To make a concerted effort to rejoice in how special our loved ones are and validate how important they are to us. But we have to make sure to keep ourselves in that focus as well. Loving someone starts with loving ourselves. And Valentine’s Day is the day we celebrate our love.

So this February 14th remember to do something special for yourself. Get yourself that certain gift no one got the hint you wanted this past holiday season, send yourself to the spa for the day, make time for those yoga classes you signed up for, schedule a Reiki session or 6, take the day off from work and spend it relaxing by yourself. What ever it is that brings you joy and makes you feel special, give it to yourself. Show yourself how special you are with a small gift or act that gives you joy and helps you remember that you are loved. Embrace that warm spark of divinity that is you.

Ghandi made that great quote about being the change we want in the world. Let’s twist that a bit and be the love we deserve in the world. Give yourself the gift of caring, love and forgiveness. Whatever it is that makes you feel special and wondrous, give it to yourself because you deserve it. You are a divine presence in the universe worthy of love, health and grace. Take the time to make sure you know it. And relish in it. I love you. God loves you. The universe acknowledges your specialness and marvels at your imperfect perfection. And you should too.

Beautiful post! It does take quite a lot more to celebrate oneself, to love and forgive… It’s nice to be reminded, thank you :)

Great reminder! This holiday has always been for couples which makes un-couples (singles) feel like an anomaly. I am glad to be reminded of just “being” without labels for once :p Keep it up. Gorgeous website!
