How to pick a Teacher

There has never been a formalized standard for teaching Reiki and therefore there are a multitude of techniques available to get an attunement. While there are options to get attuned via the internet or by CD, I would strongly recommend working with a teacher in person for a full experience.

Reiki shares are a good place to connect with Reiki Master Teachers and other practitioners in the Reiki community. This can also be a great way to experience a potential teachers ‘flow’ prior to getting an attunement with them. Checking the bulletin board of massage schools or healing centers is usually another great place to find both practitioners and teachers.

When choosing a teacher the best way to pick one is to base your decision more on ‘gut feeling’ rather then credentials. Get a treatment from the prospective teacher first to make sure you connect with their energy. This will also give them a chance to get to know you and the best learning always happens when there is a strong connection between teacher and student.

It is also a good idea to consider you own preferences when it comes to learning. Do you learn better with peer involvement? In a more individual one on one environment? Or do you want to participate in a small class where you can get a mix of both? Whether you learn in a large class, small class or one on one it’s important to remember that this is an experience that is unique to you. So make sure you put time and thought into chooseing the right learning experience for yourself.
