Hate is Not Acceptable

I have been a loud and proud supporter of gay rights since I first realized they were denied the same rights as others many years ago. I believe strongly in equal rights for all regardless of sex, sexual orientation, religion, race or creed. I truly and honestly believe that each of us is created equal and deserve to be treated as such. I am a firm supporter of our freedom of speech as well as our freedom of religion but I also recognize that our freedoms have a price and a limit.

It is not okay to hide behind your religion to try to limit other peoples rights and personal freedoms. Yes, our constitution allows the freedom to practice your faith freely but only as long as it doesn’t inhibit other peoples personal freedom. The Children of God are not afforded the right to invite their children into sexual relationships as their leader advocates, Satanist are not allowed to slaughter innocent animals as their belief structure would demand, Mormons cannot practice polygamy as their religious teaching mandates and so too, Christians who chose to interpret the bible as homophobic cannot be allowed to try to push their belief structure on others without repercussions.

I can no longer be tolerant of some of my old school chums, Facebook friends and acquaintances who have littered my news feed with homophobic rants and posts because of my willingness to allow them to ‘practice their faith’. I have to stand up for what I believe in. Hate is not acceptable, period. End of story. I am proud so many cities are standing up to Chick-fil-a and saying firmly, not in our community. This stance may cost me business, clients, friends or opportunities but I am willing to stand up for what I believe in. You are welcome to your beliefs just don’t use them to try and influence public policy and don’t be surprised when others find your hate distasteful. I don’t hate homophobes, I’m simply intolerant of their hate.
